IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF JEFFERSON COUNTY, ARKANSAS6TH DIVISION

Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center, 301 E. 2nd Ave. Pine Bluff AR 71611

Honorable Earnest E. Brown Jr                                                                                 Roderick Shelby

Presiding Judge                                                                                                          Chief of Staff

                                                                TEEN COURT CONTRACT

Juvenile: ____________________________                         Offense:_______________________

Case #: JV______________________                   Offense Date: __________________

  1. Teen Court is an alternative way of dealing with youths who are willing to admit to a violation of Arkansas law.
  2. Trained Teen Court Members will act as the Prosecuting Attorney, Public Defender, Baliff, Clerk, and ½ of the jury. The other ½ of the jury will be made up of past juvenile offenders. This will all be done under the supervision of attorneys, juvenile office staff, and the Judge.
  3. At Teen Court, you will need to plead true and admit to your offense and the jury will issue a sentence. You will be allowed, with the assistance of your teen attorney to put on your own wishes regarding sentencing.
  4. The jury may require you perform certain acts, complete community service, attend education classes relevant to your crime, make amends to the victim, perform acts to encourage others to obey the law, serve on future teen court juries, along with other options.
  5. If you choose to participate in Teen Court instead of traditional court and you complete your sentence, the charges against you will be dismissed and there will be no record of your true plea or of your participation in Teen Court. It will be as if you never had a juvenile charge filed against you.
  6. If you fail to complete the Teen Court sentence, your case will be referred back to Circuit Court and you will be ordered to appear and your true plea will be re-entered on the record and a new sentence will be issued by the Judge. You cannot change your plea at this point.
  7. You have a right to think about whether you want to participate in Teen Court. You also have a right to speak with a lawyer about whether you should participate in Teen Court. If you cannot afford a lawyer to discuss this, one will be appointed for you.
  1. You do not have to sign this Teen Court Contract and it will not be held against you in any way. The Judge will not know whether participating in Teen Court was offered or whether you turned it down.

WAIVER OF LAWYER

I have decided to make my decision about participating in Teen Court without consulting a lawyer.

I have read the above statements, any questions I have were answered, and I agree to participate in Teen Court rather than Circuit Court. I understand I will need to pay my $100.00 Administrative Fee by cash of Money Order at my Teen Court Hearing.
