TEEN COURT CONTRACT

Juvenile: ____________________________
Offense:________________________
Case #: JV_______________________
Offense Date: ____________________

  1. Teen Court is an alternative way of dealing with youths who are willing to admit to a violation of Arkansas law.
  2. Trained Teen Court Members will act as the Prosecuting Attorney, Public Defender, Bailiff, Clerk, and ½ of the jury. The other ½ of the jury will be made up of past juvenile offenders. This will all be done under the supervision of attorneys, juvenile office staff, and the Judge.
  3. At Teen Court, you will need to plead true and admit to your offense and the jury will issue a sentence. You will be allowed, with the assistance of your teen attorney to put on your own wishes regarding sentencing.
  4. The jury may require you perform certain acts, complete community service, attend education classes relevant to your crime, make amends to the victim, perform acts to encourage others to obey the law, serve on future teen court juries, along with other options.
  5. If you choose to participate in Teen Court instead of traditional court and you complete your sentence, the charges against you will be dismissed and there will be no record of your true plea or of your participation in Teen Court. It will be as if you never had a juvenile charge filed against you.
  6. be referred back to Circuit Court and you will be ordered to appear and your true plea will be re-entered on the record and a new sentence will be issued by the Judge. You cannot change your plea at this point.
  7. You have a right to think about whether you want to participate in Teen Court. You also have a right to speak with a lawyer about whether you shouldparticipate in Teen Court. If you cannot afford a lawyer to discuss this, one will be appointed for you.
  8. You do not have to sign this Teen Court Contract and it will not be held against you in any way. The Judge will not know whether participating in Teen Court was offered or whether you turned it down.
